Discussion Forums II.

The second session will take place from 3:00 to 4:30 PM.

Interdisciplinary Communication (in English)

Room: A125

Research that spans multiple fields often brings challenges stemming from differences in methodology, argumentation, terminology, and overall research approaches. Communication can therefore become one of the obstacles in such collaborations. Our discussion forum will focus on how to overcome communication barriers in interdisciplinary work. You’ll hear concrete examples from practice and learn about strategies that help researchers from different disciplines find common ground. Join us for inspiring presentations and group brainstorming and gain ideas for more effective collaboration across fields.

Impactful SciComm: Case Studies (in English)

Room: B216

What happens when science communication works well — and what are the consequences when it falls short or is neglected? Tom Carruthers will share thought-provoking case studies from abroad, illustrating both successful approaches and missed opportunities. His presentation will be followed by an interactive small-group session, during which participants – PhD students, researchers, science communicators, PR managers, public officers, and other science-engaged professionals – will share their own experiences. Together, we will critique international practices, identify local barriers to success, and find inspiration to achieve more effective communication in the Czech context. After the conference, the outcomes will be compiled and curated into a set of practical recommendations across various levels of implementation, and shared to inform future approaches to science communication.

This discussion will bring together researchers, PR specialists, and institutional leaders to identify what truly works—and what hinders open dialogue. You’ll have space to share experiences, explore effective tools, and gain inspiration for building a culture in which science communication is a natural part of an institution’s strategic management.
